What Makes a High-Performing Senior Team?
Most leaders can tell when a team is working well. It’s much harder to say why, and harder still to pinpoint what a struggling team needs to improve. TeamEVAL is CLA’s framework for answering both questions.
TeamEVAL assesses senior team performance across four dimensions:
Efficacy is how well the team delivers. Does it produce the results it’s responsible for?
Vitality is how well the team sustains itself. Does it have the trust, energy, and connectedness to keep performing over time?
Adaptability is how well the team responds to change. Can it adjust course quickly when conditions shift?
Leadership is how well the team is led. Does it have the direction, support, and accountability it needs from the person at the helm?
Why We Measure Four Dimensions, Not Two
Most team models treat adaptability and leadership as components of delivery and team health. We measure them separately because a team can be productive and positive while still being slow to adapt or poorly led. Those are different problems, and they require different work.
We separate adaptability in particular because it matters more now than it did when most team models were built. In a fast-changing business environment, a team that delivers today and works well together can still fall behind if it can’t adjust. Folding adaptability into other measures makes that risk easy to miss.
Where High Performance Lives
Each dimension is valuable on its own, but none is enough by itself. A team with strong efficacy but low vitality may hit its numbers while burning people out. A team with high vitality but little efficacy may be a great place to work that doesn’t deliver. And a team that is both effective and healthy can still struggle when conditions change if it lacks adaptability.
High-performing teams bring these strengths together. They deliver results, sustain themselves, adapt to change, and are well led.
From Assessment to Action
The TeamEVAL assessment produces a profile of where the team is strong, where it isn’t, and what to address first. That turns a vague sense that “something’s off” into a clear development priority, so leaders know where to invest and what kind of support the team needs.
